We secured compensation for a man who was left with serious head injuries after a forklift truck crushed him against a van.
In May 2015 our client was working as a driver and general labourer. He and a colleague were loading pallets of garage doors into the back of a van – his colleague was operating the forklift truck, while he coordinated the pallets as they were lifted into the vehicle. Our client noticed that the truck would rip the material covering one of the pallets and told his colleague to stop the truck while he removed the cover. As he did so, his colleague pushed forwards with the garage doors and crushed our client’s head between the pallet and the rear of the van.
He sustained a serious head injury. He went to A & E later that day with severe pain and numbness on the right side of his face and was diagnosed with post-concussion syndrome. Because of this he has suffered problems with his speech and has trouble finding words. The injury has affected his co-ordination and he continues to suffer numbness in his face, along with mood swings and fatigue.
We appointed our client a case manager, who was able to help him access rehabilitative support including neuro-occupational therapy, physiotherapy, and speech and language therapy – all of which were very beneficial in helping him on the road to recovery.
Laura Murphy, a serious injury solicitor in our London office, represented the client. She said: “We’re pleased to have secured this settlement for our client. The compensation, along with the therapies his case manager was able to refer him to, will allow him to begin rebuilding his life and to move on from the accident.”
