Our hotel illness solicitors secured a £23,600 settlement for a family whose holiday at the Caribbean World Resort in Tunisia was ruined by gastric illness.
The family of three all fell ill with gastric symptoms during their stay at the three-star resort in 2011, suffering from severe headaches, fever, stomach cramps, vomiting and diarrhoea. They had a number of complaints with the quality of their accommodation, including:
- Undercooked chicken being served in the restaurant
- Food being served on dirty and damaged plates
- Food being reheated and then left uncovered for long periods
- Cats roaming the restaurant
Dad Christopher and son Daniel recovered from their illness after returning home, but mum Amanda continued to suffer gastric symptoms.
Sunsave Travel Limited, who the Northumberland family booked the trip through, denied liability for their illness. We then began court proceedings and secured Amanda, Christopher and Daniel a £23,600 settlement.
Christopher said: “We all fell ill with horrendous symptoms a few days into the holiday. This meant that we were not able to go on any excursions or explore the local area as we had hoped because we had to stay at the hotel as we felt too ill to travel.
“My wife is still suffering with stomach issues which she finds very uncomfortable and at times embarrassing. We did not expect our annual holiday to turn out the way it did.
“We are pleased that our legal battle is now over and feel like we can finally move on from our ordeal.”
If you or loved one has suffered from food poisoning whilst on holiday, our personal injury claims team could help you to secure compensation. Visit our Holiday Food Poisoning Claims page for more information.
