Ruth Booy acted on behalf of a man who was involved in a road traffic accident in which he suffered a contusion to his cervical spinal cord.
The man's injury resulted in the need for life long care, housing adaptations, assistive technology, specialist equipment and ongoing therapeutic treatment and rehabilitation.
Due to the presence of a syrinx (a rare fluid-filled cavity) the claim was settled on a provisional damage basis for the sum of £3.5 million. Achieving the right settlement sum was important due to the severity of the injury suffered and the need for Ruth's client to have the financial security required to ensure he could pay for care and support for life.
Due to the existence of a syrinx, Ruth ensured that her client has the security he needed the security in knowing that he could return for additional compensation should his health deteriorate and care needs increase, therefore signifying the importance of settling the claim on a provisional basis.
