Sylvia Skelsey, from Rugby, wanted to surprise her family members with a treat and booked a two-week getaway to the Club STS Hotel in the resort of Bodrum, Turkey.
The 75-year-old retiree was hoping they could enjoy a relaxing family holiday break in the sun but it all turned sour as all five fell ill suffering from severe gastric symptoms including stomach cramps and diarrhoea.
Our expert lawyers issued court proceedings against tour operator The Freedom Travel Group Limited, who were trading as Kwik Travel, following their ‘nightmare’ experience. A five-figure settlement was agreed, despite liability being denied.
Sylvia described the ‘awful’ conditions to our team. She said that on occasions cockroaches appeared in the shower drain, sometimes the swimming pool water was unclean and safety railings were missing. Sometimes the meat appeared undercooked at the restaurant and the chicken was pink in the middle. She also complained that on a number of instances the cutlery and crockery was dirty and glasses had visible lipstick marks on them.
Sylvia fell ill midway through the trip suffering with severe diarrhoea and painful stomach cramps. She alerted hotel staff to her condition but she advises that no action was taken. She was also aware that other hotel guests had fallen ill. Sylvia was told there was no on-site doctor available and therefore visited a local medical clinic which was associated with the hotel.
Sylvia said: “This was supposed to be a relaxing holiday and quality time with the family but it quickly turned into a nightmare and caused a lot of distress for us all.
“I’m just glad that the case has now been resolved and I am very grateful to Irwin Mitchell for the work they did to assist my family and I.”
