Irwin Mitchell helped to secure compensation on behalf of 35 guests after they became ill at the Grand Hotel in Scarborough.
During their stay in 2007, members of the High Wycombe Orpheus Male Choir were concerned by the poor food hygiene at the hotel, notably that some of the food was served undercooked and lukewarm. The group noticed a general lack of hygiene throughout the accommodation, the décor and facilities being rundown. Furthermore, the guests were concerned that they were not warned about an apparent illness outbreak at the hotel.
The choir members suffered symptoms including diarrhoea, vomiting and headaches. The group had a concert scheduled but could not attend this due to illness, this being their first cancelation in their 89 year history.
Following negotiations with Britannia Hotels Limited, our solicitors successfully secured a five-figure settlement for the guests in accordance with their pain, suffering and loss of amenity.
Ken, chairman of the High Wycombe Operus Male Choir, said: “It’s been a long hard slog to get to this stage, and we are extremely grateful to Irwin Mitchell who diligently pursued our cases for us.
“Although nothing can make up for what we went through, it’s a relief that we can finally start to put this unfortunate experience behind us.”
