Specialist serious injury solicitors at Irwin Mitchell recovered damages of just over £1 million for a client who suffered severe orthopaedic injuries in a motorcycle accident.
Our client was travelling on a motorbike when she collided with a taxi that had turned into the path of the bike. She sustained very severe fractures and crush injuries to her lower limbs. Many operations were required in order to salvage one of her legs. Despite this, mobility has been significantly impaired and our client's ability to work has been greatly affected.
Stephen Nye, Head of the Birmingham Serious Injury team, handled the case. He said: "This case involved orthopaedic injuries which very nearly resulted in limb loss. Although the surgical team did an excellent job, my client was unfortunately left with very significant disabilities, giving rise to care needs for life.
"It was highly unlikely that the client would ever work again. This very substantial award will provide my client with financial security in the future and will allow appropriate care and support arrangements to be instigated. These terrible injuries and the award of compensation would have been avoided if the taxi driver had been paying proper attention to the road."
