Our child abuse solicitors successfully made claims against Coventry City Council and Northamptonshire County Council on behalf of three children who they had failed during their childhoods.
The mother of our clients was known to social services prior to the birth of her first child and the social services file noted that she wasn’t fit to look after children.
Throughout their childhoods, various referrals were made to social services by their school, neighbours and the police, who were called to the premises constantly due to reports of domestic violence and child safety concerns. Despite evidence of such a risky situation for the children, they weren’t removed into care for many years, at which point the children disclosed extensive physical and sexual abuse.
Our solicitors claimed compensation for the various assaults that their mother made upon the children, but also to accommodate therapy packages for each child so that they are supported during their transition into adulthood and beyond.
The final sum, agreed between the parties and then approved by the court, was more than £215,000. We liaised with our Court of Protection team to manage the investment of the fund and to provide financial assistance to each of our clients.
Luke Daniels, head of our child abuse team and Partner acting for the children, said: “This was a difficult case involving having to establish liability of two different Local Authorities. It was a real success to achieve financial redress for all three children which will go some way to provide for them now and in the future.”
