Irwin Mitchell has helped a woman from Kent claim compensation after she was injured whilst entering her place of work.
Our client, SW, was walking into the college where she is employed when a security barrier closed unexpectedly as she passed through it.
The incident caused a soft tissue injury on her thigh and brought forward symptoms related to a pre-existing, but previously unsymptomatic, degenerative back condition by as much as five years.
SW had to take time off work and, on her return, change her working practices to accommodate her ongoing pain and discomfort, including modifying her immediate environment.
SW approached Irwin Mitchell for legal advice and support in bringing a claim against the college and Mark Aldridge, a personal injury specialist based in Irwin Mitchell’s Leeds office, was assigned to the case.
After a series of investigations, Mark was able to negotiate £14,000 in compensation for SW in an out of court settlement, in respect of the pain and suffering caused.
Mark Aldridge said: “On first impressions, this accident appeared to be a simple injury. However, once I had the opportunity to look into it properly, it was something that had a lasting impact. I am pleased I could do something to gain recognition for the effect that the injury was going to have on my client.”
