Irwin Mitchell has secured £155,000 in compensation for a Birmingham electrician who was injured while working for Map Group.
Our client was working on cables in a pit to install Virgin Media cable television. When he tried to get out of the pit, his foot became stuck and caused a serious injury to his right knee. He has undergone three operations on his knee since the incident and may need more surgery in the future.
Ann Houghton, solicitor in the serious injury team in the Birmingham Irwin Mitchell office who represented our client, commented: “My client suffered multiple ligament injuries to his right knee in the incident, which could have been avoided if greater care had been taken to protect workers' safety on site.
“The incident could have been prevented if simple measures were taken including not putting debris down the pit and organising the cables. The impact on my client and his family has been devastating: he has been unable to return to work, has suffered financially and his life has been put on hold in many ways.
“His quality of life was affected and he could not play with his son or had to stop coaching a children’s football team. During my client’s case we have worked to secure interim payments of compensation to help him to make ends meet financially and to have access to rehabilitation and surgery in a private hospital.
“The compensation we have now secured for my client will enable him to start to move on with his life and protect him in the future if he needs more surgery.”
Our client said he was “very pleased on a personal level with the overall service provided.” In particular he commented that “phone calls were always answered by the actual solicitor which was great and gave much confidence.”
