Specialist solicitor Julia Willouby-Smith from Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office has secured a five figure sum in compensation for a young man who received negligent surgery.
Our client, Mr F, was diagnosed with Perthe’s Disease when he was 15 years old, as a result of an operation he underwent on the ball of his left hip, where screws were fitted.
Six months after this surgery, Mr F began experiencing grinding pains in his hip and was referred for a further operation. A bone graft was taken from his pelvis and more screws were fitted.
A couple of weeks after this particular operation, he developed an infection. He returned to hospital to have a cyst removed and fluids drained.
Since this operation three years ago, Mr F has been left in constant pain. His left leg is three inches shorter than his right, screws are protruding from his hip, and he cannot walk without crutches. He also suffers from back pain and a large unattractive scar down his leg.
Mr F instructed Julia Willouby-Smith to investigate a claim on his behalf. Due to the long term pain Mr F now suffers, £25,000 was secured in compensation in an out of Court settlement.
