Specialist solicitor Rosalyn Holmes, from Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office, has secured a five figure sum in compensation for a man who was injured after being knocked off his bicycle by a passing car.
In October 2009, our client was involved in a road traffic accident when he was cycling along Wilmslow Road in Fallowfield, Manchester. Whilst cycling down Wilmslow Road in the green cycle lane, another vehicle driving in the same direction drove into the side of our client, causing him to fall from his bicycle and injure himself. As a result he was taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary by ambulance.
Because of the collision our client suffered soft tissue spinal injuries and significant mental symptoms resulting in an adjustment disorder. He also experienced disturbed sleep for six to seven weeks following the accident and also flashbacks of being hit on his side by the car.
For approximately two months post accident, our client felt very ill, having no energy and barely able to move. He stopped eating as much and lost weight. He had no appetite, tired very quickly and also experienced panic attacks.
Due to the injuries sustained, he underwent a course of physiotherapy treatment and during this time was unable to attend his university course and had to cancel a residential to Spain.
The defendant admitted full liability and £37,500 was secured in compensation in an out of Court settlement.
