Irwin Mitchell has recently handled a case where a resident of the St Mary’s Care Home went missing.
On the evening of the 7th June 2011, the woman; who has dementia, went missing from her care home at around 7pm. The police were called and the woman was found by a member of the public with injuries to her cheek bone and cuts to her hands, knees and eyebrow. The woman was taken to hospital.
The woman’s family were not notified until around 9.45pm the same evening.
Liability was admitted by the care home for neglecting the woman whilst under their care, by allowing her to leave the home unattended and not noticed that she had gone for a few hours.
Irwin Mitchell successfully represented the woman and secure an out of court settlement of £1250.
