Specialist workplace injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have assisted a man from Drybrook in Gloucester to obtain compensation following an accident at work.
Our client was unloading a trailer when a partition in the trailer dropped on to the handle of the pallet truck that he was holding, causing his arm to be wrenched straight down. Our client suffered a rotator cuff tear to his left shoulder which required surgery for repair. Before his operation, he was unable to lift or raise his left arm. He had difficulty sleeping, walking his dogs and changing gear in his car. He had to pay someone to mow his lawns as he was unable to do this for some time. He also had to rely on his wife and daughter to complete DIY jobs he had started before the accident. Overall, his quality of life before the operation was significantly reduced due to pain and uncertainty.
Our client had to have three weeks off work following the surgery. His arm was immobilised for some time and he needed help with washing and dressing. He was unable to drive for six weeks and used an automatic car after that. He has been left with some residual symptoms which will have some minor impact on his quality of life.
The client came to Irwin Mitchell for advice six months after the accident, and following negotiations, the specialist accidents at work team in Sheffield were able to secure compensation for his injuries.
