Irwin Mitchell’s specialist personal injury team in Leeds has assisted a man to secure compensation after he was injured in an accident at work.
Our client, N, was employed as a sign fitter and had been contracted to go to measure a sign on a retail park. He climbed the ladder to measure the sign when the ladder slipped sideways, due to the ladder not being footed properly. Upon further investigation, it was identified that the sign measuring job should have been carried out using a cherry picker lift rather than a ladder.
N sustained bilateral fractures to his heels (calcaneal fractures) and a fracture to his wrist. N’s injury to his wrist fortunately healed without complications. With regard to heel fractures, N was in plaster for approximately fourteen weeks, after which he had physiotherapy. N was later referred to the Pain Management Clinic because of ongoing pain with his heels and an altered gait.
N’s injuries affected his ability to work and he required considerable support during his recovery period. N is likely to struggle in his job as a sign fitter long term.
N approached Irwin Mitchell Solicitors to discuss bringing a claim against his former employer for his injuries. With the help of Claire Newstead, a solicitor in the Serious Injury team in Leeds, N received a five figure sum in compensation for his injuries.
