Specialist personal injury solicitor, Kerry Hadley from Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office has secured over £16,300 in compensation for a man who was injured in a road traffic collision.
In January 2012, our client was the passenger in a car which was involved in a road traffic accident. Whilst stationary at traffic lights, another vehicle collided with the rear of the car. The impact was so severe and unexpected, that our client was unable to brace himself, causing him to hit his head on the dashboard despite wearing a seatbelt.
The following day our client suffered neck and back pain and a flare up of pre-existing glaucoma. He required assistance from his wife (who was pregnant at the time) with getting in and out of bed and to the bathroom/toilet. His wife also cooked and served him his meals. Our client’s wife gave birth shortly after his accident and he was unable to pick up his new born son for fear of dropping him, therefore had to be in a seated chair to hold his son who was placed on his knee. He was also unable to drive and became anxious as a passenger.
Our client was unable to lift and as such, found it difficult to carry out his duties at work which included cleaning, stocking shelves, serving customers and taking deliveries. Unfortunately, he was laid off as his employers were unable to find him a suitable, alternative position.
The Defendant admitted full liability and due to the injuries sustained and loss of earnings, our client was awarded £16,336.31 in compensation, in an out-of-court settlement.
