Julie, a West Midlands woman, suffered pain following a dispensing error at her local pharmacy.
Julie has a previous medical history of Chronic Dystonia and as a consequence has been taking the same medication for approximately 30 years.
On one occasion her local pharmacy dispensed incorrect medication and Julie proceeded to take this medication for a period of 13 days before she realised that an error had been made. This caused several symptoms including shortness of breath, a burning sensation in her throat and acid reflux. Her movement disorder also became significantly worse during this period.
Upon discovering the error Julie immediately stopped taking the medication and sought medical advice. She discovered that the medication prescribed is commonly used in the treatment of Gout. Julie was extremely concerned about the effect it would have on her health in the long term.
Julie decided to contact Irwin Mitchell’s specialised medical negligence team and one of our experienced solicitors, Jenna Harris, was able to deal with her claim. Jenna successfully secured a four-figure sum in compensation for Julie, and also provided expert medical evidence regarding her prognosis for the future. This ensured the compensation she received would help provide for her in the future, putting her mind at rest.
