Irwin Mitchell's specialist serious injury team has helped a man claim compensation after being deliberately run over and injured in Sheffield.
In February 2009, our client Mr K, sustained serious injuries which meant his spleen had to be removed, plus suffering from extensive scarring and psychological injuries. This occurred after he was injured when he was deliberately run over in Sheffield.
What Happened?
Our client had got into a disagreement with a road user. The driver of the car had verbally abused Mr K’s partner, and when our client had approached the driver on foot to speak with him, the passenger in the vehicle had shown Mr K a knife. Our client then quickly tried to leave the scene, but the driver used the car to run Mr K over.
Mr K’s injuries meant that he required lifelong medication. He suffered flashbacks and nightmares. He found day-to-day life much more difficult to deal with than he did before.
How Irwin Mitchell Helped
The police never traced the car or the driver. We therefore made a claim to the Motor Insurers Bureau under the Untraced Drivers Scheme. Using this scheme meant that Mr K could claim damages for his injuries, even though the driver was never found.
In Autumn 2011, Irwin Mitchell successfully settled his case for an amount which allowed him to have the psychological treatment he needed to improve his quality of life and live as he did before. We also recovered the cost of his medications for the rest of his life.
