An elderly lady from Leeds has claimed compensation against a shop after she was injured during her visit.
The lady was shopping in the Leeds branch of Dunnes went the incident happened. She was waiting by the till to pay when a piece of board fell from the side of the till area. The piece stuck her with enough force to cause her to fall and fracture her hip.
She was taken to hospital by ambulance where she stayed for some time to receive treatment. Upon discharge from hospital, she was dependant on her adult children for help with daily activities such as cooking and cleaning as she lived alone. Fortunately the lady made a full recovery.
Lawyers at Irwin Mitchell were able to secure £14,500 in compensation for the woman. The compensation included money to cover the assistance her family provided and the expenses which they incurred whilst travelling to care for her regularly.
