A Leeds lady has received £200,000 compensation for injuries sustained when she was knocked over by a speeding vehicle, whilst crossing the road.
Our client sustained serious orthopaedic injuries including a fracture and ligament damage to her knee, fractured pelvis and a fractured arm. Surgery was required upon admission to hospital and our client then had a lengthy stay in hospital whilst she tried to regain her mobility. She was discharged home once she was able to mobilise with a crutch for short distances. Due to ongoing difficulties with her mobility, our client had to be re-housed into single level accommodation.
Our client also underwent further surgery to her knee to try to improve her mobility and assist her recovery. Unfortunately, following surgery she still experiences feelings of instability in her knee and it is likely that she will need to wear a knee brace for life to assist with this. In addition, she is likely to require further surgery in the future including a total knee replacement.
Cathryn Godfrey, from our specialist road traffic accidents team in Leeds represented the client and commented, “My client was seriously injured whilst crossing a road as a consequence of a speeding driver who did not see her. As a result of the injuries sustained, she will have to live with and adapt her life to accommodate the ongoing symptoms that she now has. The compensation received will ensure that she has funds to purchase the leg brace and other aids and equipment that she needs during her lifetime, in addition to compensation for the actual injuries sustained and losses and expenses incurred to date".
