Irwin Mitchell’s specialist accident at work team has recently helped a woman to claim compensation after she was injured while operating heavy equipment at work.
Our client was employed as a Domestic Housekeeper in October 2009. As part of her duties she was instructed to clean a large carpet with a heavy carpet shampooer but during the operation of the equipment she felt it pull her back. The following day our client suffered a spasm on the right side of her back and also experienced some mild pain on the left side. She continued to have pain for the next couple weeks and decided to visit a GP to seek further treatment.
Our client was absent from work for just over two weeks, however, two weeks of this was pre-booked holiday leave. Due to the low back pain the client left her employment as a Domestic Housekeeper six months following her injury.
The Employer denied liability and Court Proceedings were commenced. In July 2012 Irwin Mitchell’s experienced accident at work team was able recover £2,650 for the client in an out of court settlement.
