Irwin Mitchell has assisted a woman to receive compensation after she was injured whilst visiting a shopping centre in March 2010.
Sophia from Worcestershire was walking into the shopping centre, when she stepped on a loose paving slab, causing her to rock her balance and fall to the floor.
The force of the fall was taken on her right knee which she was told upon examination at the hospital, had caused swelling, blood vessel damage and soft tissue damage. As a result, she required a splint.
Sophia also had a blood clot in her knee and was instructed to use crutches and keep her leg raised. Although the symptoms settled within three to six months, the skin discolouration she also experienced was likely to be permanent.
Kerry Hadley of Irwin Mitchell’s expert personal injury team pursued this case on behalf of the client in order to gain justice for the injuries suffered as a result of the accident. The shopping centre admitted they were at fault, and Kerry recovered £5,000 compensation for the client in an out-of-court settlement in May 2012.
Kerry commented this was a good result for the client and a positive outcome had been achieved.
