Irwin Mitchell recently assisted a client who was seriously injured when he was hit by a car whilst riding his bicycle.
Our client was involved in the road traffic accident in February 2010. The incident happened whilst the client was cycling along a road. He was struck from behind by a car and was consequently knocked off his bicycle. He was then dragged along the road for some distance by the vehicle that had hit him.
Our client sustained numerous serious injuries including a fractured pelvis, broken ankle, broken ribs, punctured lung, fractured shoulder, shattered upper arm bone, chipped vertebrae, broken nose, broken teeth, severe skin damage and general bruising and abrasions to his entire body.
As a result of the multitude of injuries he suffered, our client also had to have several surgical procedures to fix is broken ankle, reconstruct his upper arm and also repair the skin damage with a skin transplant.
Our client was off work for six months while he recovered from his injuries.
The defendant admitted liability for our client’s injuries and the case was settled out of court in March 2012. Our client received compensation in the sum of £60,000 for his pain and suffering.
