A British lady who was affected by diarrhoea and sickness whilst on a Nile Cruise with Thomson Holidays in Egypt has won a substantial out of court settlement.
She described the buffet on board the cruise ship as being served lukewarm and recalled being served an omelette at breakfast which was severely undercooked. Her holiday was spoilt by the illness and four years later, she still has to be careful about what she eats, her doctor has informed her that the sickness she went through on the cruise has caused irritable bowels and she has been advised that the effects may be with her for the rest of her life.
Thomson Holidays denied liability for the illness at first but then offered an out of court settlement of over £7,000 in damages. Four other holidaymakers from Scotland, who also stayed on the same cruise ship in July 2004, also experienced illness and with the assistance of Irwin Mitchell, recovered over £25,000 in compensation.
