In October 2009, our client was due to undergo reconstruction surgery at Friarage Hospital in North Allerton. He felt excruciating pain as the general anaesthetic was administered.
Despite our client being already under anaesthetic, the surgery was abandoned as there was insufficient surgical equipment available in the operating theatre. Parts of the equipment required to perform the surgery had been recently upgraded and so were no longer compatible with the rest of the necessary equipment.
Due to the first unsuccessful procedure, our client had to undergo a second operation under general anaesthetic in Glasgow. He was unable to care for his children adequately during this time. He suffered considerable pain, anxiety, stress and a long recovery period.
Margaret Ryan in the Leeds Clinical Negligence team helped our client to negotiate damages of £3,500 to compensate for the pain and suffering that our client suffered due to the hospital’s negligence.
