Irwin Mitchell Solicitors have recovered a large compensation settlement for the family of a deceased mesothelioma sufferer.
Mr B, a resident of Dudley in the West Midlands, had worked for John Cashmore Limited for around 8 years from 1961. The company was a steel stockholders and Mr B worked as a lorry driver involved in breaking up and transporting steel in particular from decommissioned locomotive engines.
Mr B was regularly exposed to asbestos at work as the locomotives and other pipe work often contained significant amounts of asbestos insulation. Mr B recalled clouds of asbestos dust being generated when he and his colleagues removed asbestos from the reclaimed steel.
Shortly before his death, Mr B instructed Irwin Mitchell to help him make a claim. The claim was taken on by Mr B’s family and the insurers for the company subsequently accepted that they had negligently exposed him to asbestos. They also agreed to pay his family £150,000 in compensation.
Iain Shoolbred, a Solicitor from Irwin Mitchell’s specialist asbestos related disease team, who handled Mr B’s case said: “Mr B had been heavily exposed to asbestos during his work at John Cashmore Limited. This is not the first case of an asbestos related disease developing from exposure with this company. I was very pleased to recover a large settlement for Mr B’s family. I hope that this will secure Mr B’s wife’s financial future. I was also pleased to obtain an admission of liability which I believed helped the family come to terms with what had happened to Mr B”.
