A man received compensation following a laceration caused by a sharp edge on a washing machine.
Our client was plumbing in his daughter’s new washing machine when the injury occurred. He removed the bolts securing a stabilising bar and as he did so, the rubber bungs dropped inside the machine casing.
The instructions confirmed that these bungs and internal packaging can be removed from beneath the machine. As he retrieved these items, his arm came into contact with a sharp metal edge causing a cut which bled heavily.
Our client went to hospital and was noted as having a 6cm laceration.
A letter of claim was submitted to Indesit Company UK Limited where liability was admitted for the accident. Our client received £1,585 in an out of court settlement.
Katrina Elsey represented the client and said: “The goods supplied to our client’s daughter were unfit for purpose and not of satisfactory quality due to the sharp edging on the underside of the machine. The machine in this case was taken away by Indesit to be inspected and replaced with a new machine.”
