Biography
I'm a solicitor in the Public Law and Human Rights department in Southampton. I originally joined the firm in September 2019 as a paralegal and returned in September 2022 shortly after qualifying.
I specialise in judicial review, community care and Court of Protection cases. I have particular experience and interest in judicial review cases concerning the rights of asylum seekers and other migrant communities, as well as cases concerning sexual and gender-based violence.
Judicial Review:
I act for individuals, charities and campaign groups in challenges against policies and decisions made by public authorities, particularly where they impact negatively upon asylum seekers and other migrant groups. I have brought successful cases against government departments, including the Home Office, and local authorities.
Court Of Protection:
I regularly act on behalf of vulnerable adults and their families in the Court of Protection in deprivation of liberty cases, serious treatment cases, and health and welfare disputes.
Community Care:
I represent clients in challenges to local authorities relating to disputes over care packages and assessments. I also have experience in ensuring that destitute families obtain proper support from local authorities and government departments.
What Inspired You To Get Into Law?
I wanted to be able to make a real difference to the lives of the most vulnerable in our society, and felt that law was a valuable tool in being able to do this.
What Is The Most Rewarding Aspect Of Your Role?
It is rewarding to know that you have played even just a small part in improving someone’s life; whether by helping them obtain redress and accountability for wrongs that have occurred, or by ensuring that they have the support they need to live their lives to the full.
What Do You Like About Working At Irwin Mitchell?
Working with wonderful colleagues who feel passionately about the issues that are close to my heart, and who work hard to make a difference to the lives of the most marginalised in our society. It is a very supportive and caring environment.
What Do You Do Away From The Office?
I enjoy playing the piano and baking when I get the chance!
