Biography
I am a paralegal in the Public Law & Human Rights team, specialising in Court of Protection and community care cases. I joined Irwin Mitchell as a paralegal in 2022 after previously working in immigration law.
I work closely with a solicitor in my team, representing vulnerable individuals where there is a dispute in terms of their mental capacity or their best interests. Ultimately, this involves exploring what changes can be made to our client's current care and residence arrangements to improve their quality of life.
I also help to challenge decisions made by public bodies, such as where an assessment of a person's needs has resulted in them receiving less support than they require.
What inspired you to get into law?
I have always been interested in pursuing a career which enables individuals or communities to make positive changes to their lives and the experience of our community as a whole. Supporting individuals to identify legal solutions to the issues they are facing is empowering for our clients and is an extremely rewarding job!
Testimonials
"Thank you. We received amazing support from Helen Schilizzi and Elizabeth Ridley, representing a young asylum-seeker in hotel with age dispute and successfully ensuring she is taken into care by the social services. The team was very helpful, attentive and sympathetic, and took great care to make sure the young person's needs were accommodated. I highly recommend working with them." - 5* Trustpilot review
