Couple Miss Flights Home After One Admitted To Hospital With Gastric Illness

Irwin Mitchell Investigating Conditions At Club Med Napitia Hotel

A couple has instructed expert travel illness experts at Irwin Mitchell to investigate conditions at an Italian hotel after they both fell ill and missed their flights home after being admitted to hospital.

Thomas Brooks, 19, and Amy Shaw, 18, booked a week-long stay at the Club Med Napitia, in September 2015 through Travel Club Elite Limited.

However, they both fell ill while staying at the hotel and suffered diarrhoea, vomiting, dizziness and lethargy, which meant they were unable to enjoy the facilities.

Amy, from Upminster, Essex, was admitted to hospital and placed on an IV drip to treat the symptoms and rehydrate her. She spent three days in hospital and both Amy and Thomas missed their flights home to the UK.

They reported that the hotel did not have the hygiene standards they expected and they said they often saw food left uncovered, some of the meals were served at incorrect temperatures and on occasion birds and insects were observed in the restaurant areas.

The couple has now instructed expert travel illness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of their illness following their stay at the Club Med Napitia and to help them find the answers they are seeking.

Expert Opinion
“Gastric illnesses can be extremely serious and should not be taken lightly. It is extremely concerning to hear from Thomas and Amy about their experience at the Club Med Napitia.

“We have now begun our own investigation into the cause of the illness following their stay at the hotel to help them find the answers they deserve about what caused their illness.”

Thomas, from Romford, Essex, said: “The horrendous symptoms we suffered absolutely ruined this holiday for us. It was extremely hard to see Amy in so much pain and admitted to the hospital.

“We hope that we will get the answers we want about what caused our illness and some reassurance that any problems that are identified at the hotel will be fixed.”

Amy, a student, said: “This was supposed to be a romantic break for us but it quickly turned into a nightmare when we both fell ill. The symptoms we suffered were absolutely horrendous and the last thing I expected when I booked the holiday was that I would end up in an Italian hospital for two days.

“Missing our flight home because I was in hospital added further insult to injury as all we wanted to do was get back home and recover from our ordeal. Hopefully, we will soon understand what caused our illness.”
