Five-Star Family Holiday At Lindos Imperial Resort Ruined By Gastric Illness

Expert Travel Lawyers Launch Investigation Into Illness At Greek Hotel


A mum-of-two, whose five-star Greek holiday was ruined after the family all fell ill with gastric symptoms that continue to affect them after their return, has instructed international travel law experts at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of their illness.

Angela Thompson, from Otley near Leeds, travelled to the five-star Lindos Imperial resort in Rhodes in August 2014 with Global Travel Group Limited, for what she hoped would be a relaxing week-long break with her two children Elliot, 11, and Jude, 10.

But the 41-year-old says the holiday was a ‘complete nightmare’ when they all fell ill with symptoms including diarrhoea, sickness, stomach cramps, fever, lethargy and weight loss which meant they were unable to enjoy the full use of the resort’s facilities.

Angela has now instructed expert illness lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the cause of her family’s illness. 

Specialist lawyers, who are also acting on behalf of another family who fell ill at the resort over the summer of 2014, are investigating Angela’s reports that some of the food served, to include chicken and fish, were undercooked. 

She reports noticing that on occasions some of the food was left out uncovered for long periods during the sitting and sometimes the food served was ‘lukewarm’. The family have also reported seeing other guests who were also ill.

“We are also investigating on behalf of another family and we are very concerned to hear of reports that multiple holidaymakers were ill.

“Gastric illness can be very debilitating and cause long-term health problems so it is vital steps are taken to prevent illness from occurring.”

Angela, a training consultant, added: “I booked the holiday with the hope that it would be perfect for me and the boys to relax during their summer break from school.

“But I was quickly disappointed by the standard of the food and it was clear to me that other guests were also suffering illness as I spoke to others who were experiencing similar symptoms to my family and I.

“Within a few days we were all struck down with horrendous symptoms and had to see a local doctor who provided us with medication including; antibiotics, rehydration medication and probiotics.

“Unfortunately, even now, we’re not fully better and still suffer gastric symptoms that can be very unpleasant. 

“My family and I are bitterly disappointed that our holiday was ruined and have instructed Irwin Mitchell to help us get to the bottom of what caused us to be so ill.”
