Wills and Inheritance
Nearly half of Britons are hoping to receive an inheritance of almost £100,000 to help them out in their later years, according to a survey.
The study by financial website Fool.co.uk showed 49% of people expected to receive about £99,500 in a will, with 3% saying they would be left a seven figure sum.
One in 10 people admitted they had planned on inherited money to secure their future, while 39% said they hoped to inherit something, but thought it was rude to say so.
But 61% of consumers said they plan to look after themselves and not worry about leaving an inheritance behind, which will come as some surprise to many hopeful relatives.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, said: "Many of us don't own our homes outright, and the idea of a job for life is dead and buried.
"However, we can no longer rely on assets being passed down the family tree. And for the many of us who are struggling to make ends meet, we will have to fend for ourselves in the here and now."
