Unlicensed tattooists
Jonathan Betts, leading Personal Injury lawyer from the Manchester office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell, today warned youngsters of the potential health risks of visiting unlicensed tattooists.
His comments come in the wake of a warning by Tameside council to 2,500 parents after it had been revealed that an unregistered tattooist is operating in the region. It is believed that the tattooist in question has worked on at least six Tameside teenagers.
Health experts are now warning young people within the region that they could have been exposed to serious diseases such as HIV and Hepatitis B and C.
Check reputation of any unlicensed tattooist
Betts, who specialises in personal injury and clinical negligence at Irwin Mitchell, said: "I cannot stress how important it is for those looking to get a tattoo to think carefully when choosing a practitioner. Teenagers should go to reputable providers with proven reputations. It is very difficult to pursue successful personal injury litigation when the third party is unlicensed - there is limited legal redress."
