There are over 12 million people with disabilities in the UK, but only one in six takes part in sport regularly and we want this to change.
Further to this, there are over 40,000 people in the country living with a spinal cord injury and each year over 1,000 people are newly injured.
We’ve seen the positive impact that inclusive sport can have on our clients with spinal cord injuries and often it’s something they’ve never considered before, despite the many benefits it brings.
Last year we launched the latest phase of our Don’t Quit, Do It campaign, with the aim to get more people playing, watching and supporting disability sport than ever before.
We supported three amazingly inclusive events and asked everyone we work with to Be Part Of It by pledging their support.
It was time to Be Part of It
The idea was a simple one – together we’ll celebrate the thousands of truly brilliant people across the country that work tirelessly to make disability sport possible and in the process, inspire a new audience to get involved.
The first pledge we received was from our Don’t Quit, Do It ambassador and golden girl Hannah Cockroft who pledged to promote wheelchair racing far and wide to increase the number of adrenaline seekers taking to the track.
Throughout the second half of 2017 we received pledges from parents, professional footballers, comedians, charity workers and the disability sport volunteers, players and clubs that make it all happen.
We promised to donate £1 for every pledge we received and that these donations would go to the grassroots clubs and charities that make disability sport possible up and down the country.
We received just short of 1,000 pledges
As a thank you to everyone who supported the campaign, we tripled that donation, leaving us with a total fund of £3,000.
After asking our Twitter and Facebook followers to have their say on where the money should go, we received 7,438 votes and were able to support three organisations including the 53 Foundation, who help people with a spinal cord injury try inclusive sport for the first time.
Find out about a trio of top quality events that enabled hundreds of people to Be Part Of It last summer.
