Jess Phillips MP Will Join Irwin Mitchell Diversity Webinar on 12 November
On Thursday 12 November, a national law firm is set to welcome a very special guest to a webinar aimed at advancing gender equality and diversity in the workplace.
Women’s rights campaigner, Jess Phillips MP, will be the guest speaker at an Irwin Mitchell webinar organised by IM Powered, to discuss the challenges of gender equality in the workplace.
The Labour MP for Birmingham Yardley spent five years working for Women’s Aid, supporting and defending women and became Birmingham’s first ever victims champion. As an MP, Jess was appointed to the Women and Equalities Committee and is now chair of the Women’s PLP.
IM Powered group is Irwin Mitchell’s internal group that looks to support colleagues and raise awareness of the challenges of gender equality in the workplace. Joining Jess to discuss the issues are senior associate solicitors Hayley Hill and Helen Dyke and Suzie Branch-Haddow, Director of Employer Engagement at Birmingham Metropolitan College.
Irwin Mitchell was ranked as one of the best firms in the UK for women to work for by the Great Place To Work Institute in 2020. In contrast to much of the legal sector, 70 per cent of colleagues are female and the gender pay gap is lower than the industry and national average.
Expert Opinion
“We are delighted to be able to welcome Jess Phillips to our discussion on gender equality and diversity in the workplace.
“The webinars are a great space to have a frank and open discussion of the issues that matter to people and Jess’ reputation for plain speaking and promoting women’s rights will give the debate the focus it needs to address the issues that remain to be resolved.
We have made great strides at Irwin Mitchell in recent years in terms of gender equality and diversity but more remains to be done and we are looking forward to hearing Jess’ views as we continue on this journey to greater diversity and equality for all our colleagues.” Helen Dyke - Senior Associate Solicitor
