Irwin Mitchell’s Southampton Office Nominates Charity of the Year
Rowans Hospice is set for a fundraising boost after colleagues at the Southampton office of Irwin Mitchell nominated the organisation to be its Charity of the Year for 2019.
The national law firm’s annual charity initiative sees staff across 13 of its offices take part in a vote to select a good cause which they can support through both voluntary work and fundraising events.
It is part of the work undertaken by the Irwin Mitchell Charities Foundation (IMCF), an independent charity founded in 1997, which has raised more than £1.8 million for charities in the UK and abroad.
This year, the firm’s Southampton office has voted to give its support to Rowans Hospice, which is dedicated to supporting those who are living with life-limiting illnesses in Portsmouth and the South East Hampshire area.
Expert Opinion
“As a firm we have always been passionate about doing what we can do to support important causes and organisations through the IMCF and the Charity of the Year initiative.
“Rowans Hospice undertakes incredibly important work and we are already planning a range of activities across the year which will ensure that vital funds are raised to support the services that it provides to so many people.
“Helping good causes is a core part of life here at Irwin Mitchell and we are excited about seeing just how much we can do for Rowans Hospice and our other chosen charities across the coming months.” Guy Darlaston - Partner & London Head of Asbestos and Occupational Disease
Rowans Hospice’s mission is to provide hospice care in all settings by working with the NHS, other partners and the local community to help those affected by life-limiting illness, as well as families touched by death or bereavement.
Funds raised by Irwin Mitchell across this year will support the hospice’s Silver Jubilee Appeal, a major three-year project to improve facilities which has been launched to mark the 25th anniversary of its opening.
Gemma Carden, Corporate Engagement Lead at Rowans Hospice, said: “We are delighted that Rowans Hospice Silver Jubilee Appeal has been selected as Irwin Mitchell’s charity of the year.
“The appeal is a big project to renovate our hospice after 25 years with us needing to raise £7.5 million. We would not be able to do this without the support of our local community, including Irwin Mitchell. We look forward to working with the firm in 2019.”
