Craig Weston, a senior associate barrister in Irwin Mitchell’s Criminal and Regulatory Investigations Group in London, has been assisting script writers at Coronation Street on their next high profile storyline.

The soap, which celebrates its 60th anniversary next year and is watched by millions of people each week, contacted Irwin Mitchell late last year in order to ensure its story involving a court case involving David Platt and Nick Tilsley is accurate from a legal point of view.

The story will be appearing on our screens over the coming weeks and months and focuses on the trial of issue and sentencing of the two characters after it was revealed that Nick had stolen £80,000 from his Grandma, Audrey Roberts.

Craig has been in touch with the team at ITV on a regular basis over the last couple of months and he has been advising them on the legal queries, such as the trial process, conduct of legal representatives, the likely length of prison sentence that would be appropriate for both based on the crimes, which also include money laundering, and the impact of previous convictions.

Last month Irwin Mitchell announced that Aurelia Butler-Ball, a senior associate who specialises in media and entertainment law, had advised and negotiated a film deal for the British divers who last year completed the high profile and dramatic rescue of 12 boys from a cave in Thailand.

The divers answered a rescue call from the Thai authorities to join a major search operation after a group of boys and their football coach disappeared in the Tham Luang Nang Non caves last June.

The rescue captured the world’s attention for more than two weeks and culminated in John and Rick successfully reaching the boys on 3 July.
