Irwin Mitchell Staff Raise Money For SANDS
A group of lawyers have put their best foot forward to raise money for a charity which helps families affected by the death of a baby.
Lawyers from national law firm Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office completed the Sheffield Round Walk on Saturday, raising money for the stillbirth and neonatal death charity, SANDS.
The team decided to take on the 15 mile route as 15 babies die every day in the UK either before, during or shortly after birth.
Anne Brundell, expert medical negligence lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Sheffield office was among those who took part in the event.
Expert Opinion
“Sadly through our work, we often see the terrible impact that stillbirth and neonatal death has on so many families.
“We believe in building strong links within the communities in which we work, so the walk was not only a way to do our bit for charity but also an opportunity for us to reflect on how those affected by the death of a baby can receive the care and support they need.
“The rain was non-stop and the route was very hilly. However, we were not going to let this get in our way.” Anne Brundell - Solicitor
Anne was joined on the walk by Michael Turner, Julianne Moore, Darren Wilson, Catherine Slattery, Leanne Farmer and her partner Scott Hobbs.
They walked in memory of Michael’s nephews Benjamin and Harry as well as Darren’s niece, Sophie. Benjamin and Sophie were delivered stillborn. Harry died shortly after he was born.
Setting off from Endcliffe Park in the morning and completing the route at around 5.30pm, the group raised £680 for Sheffield SANDS.
The charity is running its #Challenge15 campaign encouraging people to take part in a fundraising event covering 15 miles.
SANDS supports anyone affected by the death of a baby, works to improve the care bereaved parents receive, and promotes research to reduce the loss of babies’ lives.
Sheffield support group meetings take place on the second Thursday of every month at 7.30pm at St Mary’s Conference Centre in Bramall Lane. Meetings are open to anyone across Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and Worksop, affected by baby loss.
