Legal Experts And Charity Hold Regular Meetings
People affected by noise-induced hearing loss are being encouraged to attend a support group organised by lawyers and a charity.
The British Tinnitus Association run regular sessions with the support of the Birmingham office of national law firm Irwin Mitchell, offering practical help and advice to those living with the condition.
Meetings of the Birmingham and District Tinnitus Group are open to anyone with the condition. Visitors are welcome to bring a friend or relative.
Emma Ferguson, workplace injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Birmingham office said: “Through our work often see the huge frustration that conditions like tinnitus can cause, often leaving people isolated and struggling to communicate with others.
“The aim of the group is to offer practical support in a relaxed and informal setting. Anyone with the condition will be most welcome.”
This week is Tinnitus Awareness Week, and Irwin Mitchell is calling on employers to ensure they put the safety of workers by making sure staff are properly protected from the risks posed by excessive noise.
The annual week is this year being held internationally, with a range of bodies such as the British Tinnitus Association, the Tinnitus Research Initiative and Tinnitus Hub joining forces to boost awareness of the condition.
The British Tinnitus Association’s own theme for the week is ‘Kids Talk Tinnitus’, which is aimed at improving education around the condition and supporting young people whose loved ones may be affected by it.
Emma said: “Tinnitus Awareness Week is an important time to reflect on the condition and its impact on so many lives, as well as to do everything possible to improve awareness of it.
“Employers have a duty to always put safety first and we would urge them to do everything they can to ensure that workers are being protected both this week and across the rest of the year as well.”
The Birmingham and District Tinnitus Group meets on the first Tuesday of the month between 7.30pm and 9pm at The Woodside Community Centre in Highgate Road, Dudley. Meetings are also held between 10.30am and noon at Irwin Mitchell’s offices at Imperial House, Temple Street, Birmingham, on the second Tuesday of the month.
