Demand For Answers Regarding Illness at Hotel Paradise Island
A man who required medical treatment after developing gastric illness symptoms at the Hotel Paradise Island resort in Lanzarote is among several holidaymakers who have instructed specialist lawyers to help them gain justice regarding problems at the hotel.
Simon Kirby, 42, from Cardiff, suffered severe diarrhoea, vomiting, weight loss and abdominal pain after falling ill during his holiday at the resort in the Playa Blanca region at the end of September, with the symptoms proving so severe that he was administered with two IV drips at a clinic on the island.
He is among a number of holidaymakers who have now instructed Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team in relation to stays at the Hotel Paradise Island between July and October 2017 which were booked through Thomas Cook, with each of them demanding answers in relation to the illness issues which affected their breaks.
The legal experts have vast experience in representing thousands of people affected by illness issues at resorts in the UK and abroad, while they are also currently acting for several people affected by problems at the same hotel last winter.
Clare Comiskey, the specialist lawyer at Irwin Mitchell who is acting for Simon and the others, said:
Expert Opinion
“We have now heard a number of very worrying first-hand accounts regarding the illness issues faced by our clients at the Hotel Paradise Island last year and have started to make our own enquiries into what they faced.
“Through our work on numerous cases of this kind, we have seen how such illness problems can have a significant lasting impact on victims and in some cases leave them with long-term problems from which they never fully recover.
“We are determined to ensure that our clients get answers regarding the issues which affected their well-earned breaks, as well as to see whether lessons can be learned which will prevent others from facing the same issues in the future.” Clare Comiskey - Legal Executive & Associate
Simon’s stay at the Hotel Paradise Island with partner Lisa Pymble, and his son, began on September 24th 2017. However, just two days into the holiday he began to develop symptoms.
Simon has recalled to his legal team at Irwin Mitchell that he saw cats and birds in the hotel’s restaurant. He has also revealed concerning food standards at the hotel, telling his legal team that eggs and pork served in the restaurant were undercooked.
He recalled: “I was in complete agony with abdominal pains and the diarrhoea and vomiting was awful. I simply had no choice but to try and get medical treatment and I was stunned when I went to the health clinic and was put on IV drips.
“The illness made me lose weight and I was totally lethargic. It’s taken me a number of weeks since my return to get anywhere close to my normal self again.
“It is just hugely frustrating when you think that this type of holiday is meant to be a special and a relaxing break, yet the whole experience was completely ruined. I really feel I deserve answers regarding what I have been through and hope that lessons can also be learned from my case so that others do not have to go through the same ordeal.”
