Irwin Mitchell Continues Don’t Quit, Do It Campaign To Raise Profile Of Disability Sport
Members of an amateur disability sports club in Aldershot are set to take on the world’s largest indoor ski slope following a funding boost from law firm Irwin Mitchell.
Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled has received a grant as part of Irwin Mitchell’s Don’t Quit, Do It campaign set up to encourage people with disabilities to take part in physical activity.
The club will use the Community Grant to help fund a trip to Landgraaf in Holland - the world’s largest indoor ski resort. It will allow members to test their skills on the slopes before hopefully booking a skiing holiday.
Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled was set up more than 40 years ago. Currently the club has nearly 100 members, who have a range of disabilities and who take part in skiing and snowboarding sessions. People of all abilities can join.
The club has received £500 as part of Irwin Mitchell’s Disability Sports Grants Programme. The programme forms part of the Don’t Quit, Do It campaign. The law firm has already provided £4,000 to projects across the country with more applications being reviewed.
Charities, individuals and groups involved in inclusive sport are eligible to apply for money to help with the cost of training, buying specialist equipment or taking part in special events.
Jan Williams, Chair of Aldershot Snowsports for the Disabled, said: “Our annual trip to the enormous indoor snow slopes of Landgraaf is the highlight of the year for many of our disabled skiers.
“It allows our skiers to feel that they are really skiing in the mountains. It also gives them an exciting two-day social event with their friends. The generous grant will make this trip more affordable for all our members.”
The trip takes place on 2 and 3 June.
