Product Liability Specialist Lawyers At The National Law Firm Urge #SafetyAsStandard
Product liability specialist lawyers at Irwin Mitchell have backed a calling for plastic-backed fridges to be urgently removed from sale due to the fire risks they present.
An investigation from consumer watchdog Which? found that nearly half of 500 refrigeration appliances tested contained backing material made of unsafe plastic. Irwin Mitchell represents hundreds of clients who have suffered injuries and damage to property as a result of defective products.
Despite all plastic-backed refrigeration appliances on the market passing current safety standards, Irwin Mitchell lawyers agree with Which? that the tests are not fit for purpose and back the watchdog’s call for such fridges and freezers to be removed from the market.
Product liability expert Grace Kelway said: “These findings are really concerning to see as the dangers presented by the failure of products like this are all too real. The tests carried out on these products aren’t representative of what a real house fire could be like, so it’s vital that these fridges are removed immediately from sale.”
Irwin Mitchell’s #SafetyAsStandard campaign was set up to protect consumers who are exposed to the complex legal issues that defective products can present.
Grace said: “Our #SafetyAsStandard campaign helps our clients better understand their consumer rights and as the UK’s largest personal injury firm, our aim is to promote reform of the existing law whilst educating the wider public and working alongside charities, consumer agencies and the sellers and retailers of products to help raise standards.”
