18 Cases Including One Death Linked To Illness Outbreak
Specialist lawyers representing victims of major illness outbreaks have urged that swift answers are provided after a number of holidaymakers were affected by Legionnaires’ disease problems in the Majorcan town of Palmanova.
The Daily Mirror reports that one tourist is believed to have died and around 17 others remain ill as a result of the issues, which have been linked to positive samples taken from an unnamed hotel in the resort.
Eight of the 18 people affected are thought to have stayed at the hotel and now tests are also being undertaken at other locations across the area, including fountains and beach showers.
Irwin Mitchell’s International Personal Injury team has vast experience helping thousands of holidaymakers gain justice in relation to illness problems they have suffered at resorts across the globe. The firm’s Public Health team also successfully acted for victims of a fatal Legionnaires’ disease outbreak in Stoke-on-Trent in 2012.
Jennifer Mullins, a specialist lawyer at Irwin Mitchell with vast experience in this area, said:
Expert Opinion
"We are hugely concerned by the reports coming out of Palmanova and while it is welcome that authorities are taking steps to investigate the issue, it is vital that every effort is made to quickly identify the origin of the problems.
“Through our work on both illness abroad cases and Legionnaires’ outbreaks in the past, we have seen the huge impact that issues of this nature can have on victims.
“Considering the severity of the problems in Palmanova, it is likely that both those affected and their loved ones will be desperate for answers regarding how this happened. Lessons ultimately must be learned so that similar problems can be avoided in the future.” Jennifer Hodgson - Senior Associate Solicitor
