Salford Man Teams Up With Lawyers To Call On Ex-Workmates For Help
A former foundry worker from Salford who was diagnosed with asbestos-related cancer earlier this year has teamed up with specialist lawyers to appeal for his ex-colleagues to come forward and help him gain answers in relation to his illness.
Terence Wilson, 73, from Little Hulton, was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the lung commonly associated with asbestos exposure, in May. Following the news, he instructed specialist asbestos-related disease lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate how he came into contact with the material and ultimately developed the illness.
Now, as part of their enquiries, the legal experts are appealing for help from anyone who may be able to provide details on the presence of asbestos at A B Scorer Ltd – which later changed its name to Johnson Construction Machinery. Terence worked for the now-defunct steel company between 1962 and 1967 and believes it is where his exposure may have occurred.
Dominic Hemsi, the legal expert at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office who is representing Terence, said:
During his time at A B Scorer Ltd, Terence was employed as a loose pattern moulder at the company’s foundry on Southern Street in Walkden. The role involved him making steel moulds and he believes he was exposed to asbestos while using mittens and spats made of the material on a day-to-day basis.
He recalled: “The mittens and spats, which would cover my feet and shins, were made of asbestos and when they got worn down fibres would be released into the air around us. During my time working there I also dismantled furnaces which I believe contained asbestos boarding.
“It was devastating to be told of my diagnosis and it is particularly hard to take that the illness may have come about as a result of me not being protected properly at work. I believe I deserve justice on this and any information could prove vital in our efforts to get answers.”
