Mesothelioma Sufferer And Lawyers Launch Appeal For Information
A Derbyshire man who was diagnosed with asbestos-related cancer earlier this year has joined forces with specialist lawyers to appeal for his former colleagues to come forward and help him gain answers regarding how he developed the illness.
Bryan Guy Martin, known to friends and family as Guy is 85 and lives in High Peak, was diagnosed with mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the lung most commonly associated with asbestos exposure, in June this year.
Following the devastating news, he instructed specialist lawyers in Irwin Mitchell’s Asbestos-Related Disease team to help him gain answers regarding how his illness developed and whether more should have been done to protect him.
Now, as their work to investigate his employment history continues, the legal experts are keen to hear from anyone who worked with Guy during his time at Charles Clifford Ltd also known as Metallisation Service Limited between 1970 and 1978, which is when they believe his asbestos exposure may have taken place.
Dominic Hemsi, the specialist asbestos lawyer at Irwin Mitchell’s Manchester office who is representing Guy, said:
During his time as a contract manager at Charles Clifford/ Metallisation Service Ltd, Guy was based in Trafford Park but would travel to other industrial sites to measure up and provide quotes on blast cleaning services.
His role meant he would often visit power stations and factories, with Guy specifically recalling a visit to the Turner Brothers asbestos factory in Trafford Park.
He said: “I remember the visit to Turner Brothers vividly, as I measured a piece of machinery and saw it was coated in a white fibrous dust which I felt had to be asbestos. Every flat surface was covered in dust and it was also in the air too.
“Throughout my work I never believed that my health was being put at risk, so I was devastated to be diagnosed with mesothelioma. The condition has had a huge impact on my health since my diagnosis and I believe I deserve answers regarding how this happened to me.
“If anyone could come forward and help with my case it would be hugely appreciated.”
