Expert International Personal Injury Lawyers Investigating Cause Of Illness That Left Child In Hospital
A family-of-four who all suffered severe gastric illness problems during a week-long holiday in Mallorca have instructed expert international personal injury lawyers to investigate the cause of their illness.
Daniel Pearson, 32, his wife Lyndsey, 30, and their two children, Stanley and Florence, both one, from Dronfield, travelled to the four-star Aparthotel Playa Mar in September 2016, which they booked through Thomson Holidays.
But just a few days into the family holiday all four of them began suffering with diarrhoea and vomiting and were unable to enjoy the facilities at the hotel.
The problems they suffered continued on their return to the UK and the symptoms became so bad for Stanley that he was admitted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital.
Daniel and Lyndsey have now instructed expert international personal injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell to investigate the circumstances around their illness as they look to understand how they came to fall ill during the all-inclusive break.
Jennifer Downing, an expert international personal injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, representing the Pearson family, said:
Expert Opinion
“Clearly the holiday Daniel, Lyndsey and their children were looking forward to did not turn out how they planned.
“The last thing they expected was to all be struck down by a gastric illness, which effectively meant they lost time on their holiday, or for Stanley to be admitted to hospital on their return to the UK due to the continuing symptoms he suffered.
“Children can be more vulnerable to the problems associated with gastric illness and we have seen some instances where victims suffer long-term health complications as a result of developing a gastric illness while spending time abroad.
“The Pearsons have told us of a number of safety and hygiene concerns they have and we have launched our own investigation into the circumstances around their illness in the hope of providing them with the answers they deserve for their ruined holiday.
"If you also travelled to this hotel and have had a similar experience we would like to hear from you to assist with our enquiries." Jennifer Downing - Solicitor
Daniel and Lyndsey told their legal team that there were often cats and flies in the restaurant area and that some of the food appeared to be reheated and served at multiple meal times.
They also said food was on occasions left uncovered for long periods of time and that new food was often added to existing food at the buffet.
Daniel, a joiner, said: “We were really disappointed with our holiday when we all started to fall ill. The symptoms were terrible and not what we expected to be dealing with when we booked the holiday with Thomson.
“The fact Stanley’s problems were so bad that he needed to be admitted to hospital when we got back home shows just how serious the illness was. We want to know what caused the illness and to see if anything could have been done to prevent it.”
