World Class Cycling Event To Take Place June 2016
National law firm Irwin Mitchell has proudly announced it will be sponsoring the world class cycling event, the Tour of Cambridgeshire (ToC).
The ToC is the UK’s only fully closed road UCI Gran Fondo World Series and Chrono event. The two day event, which takes place on the 4 and 5 June 2016, is unlike any other mass participation event in the UK. Riders have the opportunity to participate in the largest time trial in the world on the Saturday and the largest closed road race in the UK on the Sunday, with 8000 riders expected.
The event appeals to elite racers seeking to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships, to athletic sports and challenge riders as well as to those riders who simply enjoy a day cycling with friends and families.
Those competing to qualify for the UCI Gran Fondo World Championships will have to cycle over 80 miles, whilst those who are taking part for fun have an option to participate over a shorter route of just under 60 miles.
Irwin Mitchell will also have a team of six riders taking part in the Gran Fondo.
At the event Irwin Mitchell will be hosting a stand for riders and their families and friends to join them to learn more about national initiatives such as #DontQuitDoIt, a campaign which aims to inspire those with a disability to take up sport.
The announcement follows on from Irwin Mitchell’s #SaferJourneys campaign, which aims to reiterate the importance of cyclists staying safe when out on the roads, a cause Irwin Mitchell has been committed to for many years.
Ruth Booy, Partner at Irwin Mitchell’s Cambridge office, who rode the Gran Fondo last year and regularly cycles to work in Cambridge said:
Expert Opinion
“We at Irwin Mitchell are incredibly proud to be sponsoring the Tour of Cambridgeshire this summer. It’s such a great event for all to get involved in. The buzz around last year’s event was exhilarating; the local communities along the route were so supportive it was like riding through an 80 mile street party.
“It’s especially exciting that this ties in with our #SaferJourneys campaign which focusses on ensuring people stay safe whilst travelling.” Ruth Booy - Partner
Malcom Smith, Commercial Director of the Very Cool Events Company who work closely with ToC, said; “A major sponsorship arrangement with a brand such as Irwin Mitchell is a big deal for the Tour of Cambridgeshire.
“What attracted us most of all are the values of Irwin Mitchell which reflect a deep appreciation of the importance of sport in personal wellbeing. We were particularly impressed with the “Don’t Quit, Do It” campaign aimed at disability sport.
““Don’t Quit, Do It inspired us to develop a programme of youth competition over the weekend of ToC utilising the space we have rented. We hope to be able to announce a ToC youth cycle sport programme very shortly.”
