Defective Product Experts Urge Users To Check If Their Laptops Are Affected
Defective product experts at Irwin Mitchell are urging customers to check their laptops after computer giant HP announced a worldwide voluntary recall on a number of notebook computer batteries after fears they may overheat, pose a fire hazard and could potentially burn customers.
The batteries affected by the recall were shipped with the company's laptops or sold as replacements parts for HP, Compaq, HP ProBook, HP Envy, Compaq Presario and HP Pavilion laptops between March 2013 and August 2015.
They were also provided through support channels.
HP customers are being asked to go through the validation process on their website to find out if they are affected by the recall.
If the validation process indicates that the battery is affected, HP is urging customers to stop using the battery immediately and remove it from the notebook.
Users can continue to use the laptops without the battery installed by connecting the notebook to external power.
HP is offering replacement batteries for each verified, affected battery, at no cost.
Expert Opinion
The recall shows that HP is reacting responsibly to the concerns over the overheating and fire risk these batteries pose.
Manufacturers have a duty to their customers to ensure the products they release to the market are fit for purpose and safe for their intended use.
Lessons must be learned from the problems discovered with these products and it is crucial that HP can reassure consumers that they are doing everything in their power to ensure the safety standards of their products. Tim Annett - Partner
