Legal Experts Concerned With Problems Linked To Cardiff Hotel
A couple whose first wedding anniversary celebrations were ruined when they suffered serious gastric illness following a stay at a Cardiff hotel have asked specialist public health lawyers for help to investigate the problems they experienced.
Laura and Richard Mulley suffered with symptoms to include diarrhoea, vomiting, fever, aches and pains following their two-night stay at the Angel Hotel, which they had booked as part of a trip to see the Manic Street Preachers at Cardiff Castle on June 5th this year.
The Angel Hotel, in Castle Street, which is part of the Hotel Collection Group, was temporarily closed following the outbreak. Cardiff Council reported at the time that they were investigating 26 cases of gastroenteritis. The outbreak at the Hotel was also investigated by Environmental Health.
The illness went on to ruin the rest of the couple’s anniversary celebrations, with a special family meal to celebrate both their and Laura’s parent’s anniversary also having to be cancelled.
Now, the couple from Worcester have asked specialist public health lawyers at Irwin Mitchell for help to investigate the issues they faced in an effort to gain answers regarding how they fell ill after their stay at the hotel.
Expert Opinion
“We are very concerned to have heard first-hand from Laura and Richard about the illness issues they faced. This was supposed to be a very special weekend away to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, but now it will be a lasting memory for the wrong reasons.
“The impact that illnesses such as this can have on victims should never be underestimated, as we have seen many cases where people have developed long-term health problems as a result of issues of this nature.
“We remain very keen to hear from anyone else affected who may be able to provide further information regarding the outbreak of illness, and the circumstances giving rise to it.
“We are determined to ensure that Laura and Richard are able to get answers regarding, both how they came to be ill, as well as investigate what can be done to improve health and hygiene procedures at establishments such as this and prevent others from being affected in the future.”

Garden centre shop manager Laura, 39, had booked the weekend away with her husband, Richard, 40, a technical support expert, to celebrate their first wedding anniversary.
She explained: “As it was our paper wedding anniversary we just felt concert tickets would be perfect and had looked forward to the weekend for months.
“Whilst the weekend itself was good, it was on the day that we returned home on the 7th June, that we first began to suffer symptoms. Both of us were in a terrible way – it was awful and not how we planned to spend our anniversary.
“We had further plans to celebrate our anniversary with my parents, whose own anniversary also falls on the same day as ours, but we had to cancel the plans because we were suffering so much.
“It is just devastating that our memories of our first anniversary are always going to be linked to these illness problems and we just want to know how this happened.”
