Road Safety A-Z Reminds Everyone To Stay Bright At Night
National law firm Irwin Mitchell received a helping hand from children at Chaucer School in Sheffield as they demonstrated how to stay bright at night during National Road Safety Week.
As part of their own #SaferJourneys campaign, expert serious injury lawyers from the firm spoke at a special assembly for Year 7 students to remind them to be safe and sensible now the evenings have drawn in and the winter weather is here to stay.
The students were handed luminous wristbands to wear in the evenings so they can be seen by traffic and fellow pedestrians during the inclement conditions and dark nights ahead.
They were also handed copies of Irwin Mitchell’s road safety A-Z to help raise awareness of issues their families may face when out at night. The striking visual graphic offers advice and tips on how to stay safe whether the kids are walking to school, getting a lift in a car or taking the bus.
Brake’s annual Road Safety Week encourages everyone to walk, cycle or use public transport as much as possible. Lawyers from all of Irwin Mitchell’s offices have planned a week of activity to support Brake’s campaign and will be visiting schools throughout the country to help raise awareness of road safety during the dark winter months.
Andrea Burke, a specialist serious injury lawyer at Irwin Mitchell, understands the impact road traffic accidents can have on so many lives and is urging everyone to take responsibility.
Dave Mountford, Deputy Head of Chaucer School, is a keen supporter of road campaigns that help keep children safe and is all too aware of the dangers of switching off for a split second.
He said: “We spend a lot of time reminding our children to be sensible on their travels to and from school and when out with friends and families.
“With Christmas approaching there is a lot of excitement in the air but our role is to make sure they’re concentrating when walking near a road and understand why the safety messages highlighted in the #SaferJourneys A-Z are so important.
“The assembly was a real benefit for the children; it reminded them that these accidents do happen but can be avoided if they stay alert and understand any possible dangers.
“It’s important that they realise how difficult it is on the road during adverse weather and how their behaviour can help keep everyone safe.”
In addition to the A-Z, Irwin Mitchell will be taking to social media during National Road Safety Week to share advice on driving in the rain, fog, wind, ice and snow. The firm will also be posting safety messages from children who support the #SaferJourneys campaign.
