Training Courses To Be Held Across The UK In Coming Months
Special training courses organised by the charity Back Up and supported by serious injury lawyers at Irwin Mitchell are taking place across the UK to provide patients with practical skills to help them with independent mobility.
The events as part of the charity’s Join The Dots campaign are aimed at providing support to wheelchair users on how they can reclaim their independence and become confident in getting around their local communities.
As well as sponsoring the courses, national law firm Irwin Mitchell is also providing volunteers from its local offices to offer support and assistance to all of those taking part.
Expert Opinion
"The nature of our work means we have seen numerous instances when people have been forced to come to terms with major changes in their lives as a result of spinal injuries, including the use of a wheelchair.
"However, what is key is the desire and determination to regain as much independence as possible as part of their rehabilitation and recovery.
"These courses are designed to provide practical assistance to wheelchair users to help them learn how they can navigate local public transport and routes to get around. We are delighted to lend support to this excellent cause and hope to help wheelchair users to get the best from life." Neil Whiteley - Managing Partner, Technical Client Services
Back Up Outreach & Support Manager Pete Donnelly added, “It is essential for people to have the confidence and skills to get around their communities in their wheelchair when they leave hospital.
“That’s why we are building on our wheelchair skills training sessions and now taking the training into local towns.
“It’s great to have the support of Irwin Mitchell for this vital new service and fantastic that we have volunteers from their offices to join the sessions and experience them first hand.”
